CIVIL WAR MONUMENT  DEDICATED OCT. 14, 1868                       

“East Bloomfield in memory of her sons who
died in defense of the Union 1861-5”. Above was the shield and
motto of the State of N.Y. and on sides of the different sections:
Gettysburg, Petersburg, Wilderness, Cold Harbor, Antietam,
Fredericksburg, Peninsular, and Richmond.  Of the four tablets
surrounding the monument and cornered by the cannon were
the names of the dead heroes thirty-nine in number as follows:

Eighty-fifth Regt. N.Y. Vols. Co. B, Lieut. Amos Brunson, died in
Bottoms Ridge, Va. May 24th, 1862.
Serg. John Buell, died Andersonville, Ga. Sept. 7th, 1864.

Private Benj. W. Peck died Washington D. C., June 8, 1862.
Private Edgar H. Steele died of wounds Richmond, Va. June 19,
1862.
Private Frank E. Wilcox, died Andersonville, Ga., Sept. 9, 1864.
Private John E. Blake, died Charleston, S.C.  Sept 12, 1864.
Lieut. D. Byron McMaster, 2nd Mo. Cavalry Co. F, died of wounds,
Lexington, Mo. Aug. 26 1862.
Serg. Hasculine. Hamlin, 8th N.Y. Cavalry Co. M killed Stony
Brook Station, Va. June 29, 1864.
Corp. James R. Sprague, 8th N.Y. Cavalry, Co. H.  Killed Little
Washington, N.C. Oct. 6, 1862.
Private Ralph W. Hayes, 1st N.Y. Cavalry Co. E died Washington
D.C., Jan. 24, 1864.
Private Thomas Salter, 8th N.Y. Cavalry Co. H killed Newbern, N.
C. Nov. 8, 1862.
